Christmastime in Palos!

1202 CIP2Thanksgiving is behind us and the new year is just around the corner. But first! It's time for the 13th annual Christmastime in Palos presented by the Friends of the Palos Heights Library and sponsored by First Midwest Bank. Held annually on the first Saturday in December, this year promises to be the best yet!

Here's the schedule:

  • 9:30am - Martina Mathisen will perform in period dress as Maria Moore, youngest child of famed poet Clement Clarke Moore. She will discuss the true story behind his acclaimed poem, A Visit from St. Nicholas, more commonly known as "'Twas the night before Christmas," as well as the origins of many of our oldest and most beloved Christmas traditions.
  • 10:30am - Stagg High School Madrigal Singers will dlight with classic holiday songs in the main room. They are not to be missed!
  • 11:00am - Holiday Sing-along led by Mayor Straz, Aldermen, and the Madrigal Singers.
  • 11:30am - Craig Nelson will bring his Magic Show Experience to the Meeting Room followed by an 'elfishly' fun kids' scavenger hunt upstairs in the Youth and Teen Services Department.
  • Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand taking gift requests and family photos.
  • Storytime, Face Painting, and Ornament Making for kids will be happening throughout the morning upstairs in the Youth and Teen Services Department.
  • Book sale featuring Christmas-related books and videos
  • Silent auction - The most amazing donations that have been contributed to the library over the past year will be auctioned off. This is a great opportunity to find the perfect gift for that hard to shop for person in your family!
  • Wreath drawing - Six gorgeous holiday wreaths have been put together by library staff, and tickets are already on sale for the drawing. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. Buy your tickets and place them in the box next to the wreath that you want to take home. The drawing will take place at 1pm. You do not have to be present to win.
  • Refreshments will be served in the Reading Room.
  • Early bird registration for 2018 Friends of the Library Memberships.

If you've come before, then you already know why you need to come again. If you haven't joined us in past years, don't miss out! There is a plethora of programs for the entire family beginning at 9am and running until 1pm.

Please note: Overflow parking is available at St. Alexander's Church, immediately south of the library with entrances off of 126th Street at both 71st Court and 70th Avenue. Park in the lot, proceed to the main entrance, and our volunteers will point the way through the building and to the library on the other side.
